Teamwork

Two countries. Multiple types of bonds. The United States and China are two countries that share social and economic bonds in addition to an ambition to become the best. On the other hand, these two countries are also bonded by the fact that they need to maintain a cordial relationship to survive and thrive in the global sphere no matter how much they want to supercede one another. In this blog, I call the United States and China to work more closely together to achieve mutual goals of achieving economic developmental success.

Shadow banking, as discussed previously, is an issue that needs to be addressed head-on and honestly. China should be more honest about where certain funds are coming these funds are ending up. On a large scale, this type of transparency can improve the foundations and establish more lasting values for the International Monetary Fund because accurate tracking helps all countries in respective ways. Besides shadow banking, China should recognize that Western values directly contradict Eastern values. With recognition of this, China should be more wary of how intentions to act privately for sake of privacy can come across as threatening to the Western style of thinking.

At the same time, the United States should stop objecting the policies that China adopts such as the policy to withhold state spending for certain projects for privacy reasons without deeper understanding of why a country can exercise its own discretion to adopt these policies. Especially if the policies do not concern them, the United States should not openly berate China for the adoption and instead, embrace the changes that simply do not affect their country. United States, while they teach about Eastern cultures in schools, need to teach a class on Eastern cultures to government officials. Time and time again I see on debates and conferences where harmless intentions are mistaken for malintentions that often lead to people getting upset for lack of concrete reasons.

Both the United States and China should stop getting offended and start an open, honest discussion on whatever topics that need to be discussed. Transparency, again, is the way to go. Transparency creates trust and promotes teamwork in the long run. Without teamwork, China and the United States could not afford to become the best versions of themselves. These two countries are pushing each other to become better. But first, please be more open to one another’s points of view and consider their true intentions.
